- wow this was intense ‐ honestly way more action and gore than in both of the action books I read / attempted to read this year already
- I honestly read a bit of the graphic novel before reading this and ngl I liked the graphic novel approach a bit better but they hadn’t gotten real deep into the story yet
- This book was first person through Meela’s point of view ‐ I was expecting third person bc of the graphic novel ‐ bc of that I was kind of sad we didn’t get any chapters from Lysi’s perspective but maybe it comes later in the series
- I did like that the “flashback” happened at the beginning of the story for like 5 chapters and then ended there ‐ gave the story a more chronological feel besides the first ch. ‐ I loved this bc I actually hate when there’s a flashback in like every other chapter to me it just disturbs the flow I need all the background info at the beginning
- Definitely don’t go into this thinking it’s some kind of romance bc it’s not there’s only like the smallest tiniest little drop ‐ Lysi and Meela really don’t spend that much time together or talk much throughout the book and honestly the way it ended it doesn’t seem like they will in the next one either ‐ it’s not a very good romance in general the plot carries this but it fits the whole friends to enemies to lovers trope that I like in sapphic books
- There’s kind of a lot of stuff that is like common sense in this story that you have to ignore for the sake of the plot ‐ like I feel like there are so many solutions to some of the problems they have but like if they solved them then there would be no story so you kind of just have to ignore it ‐ also meela just walking and jumping around like normal by the time they got home? What happened to the deep ass cut in her thigh ‐ stuff like that happens too and is kind of just looked over
- Predictions ‐ meela turns into a mermaid by the end of the series and her and lysi live hea in the ocean ‐ Dani gets a redemption arc? Or she just continues to try and sabotage meela ‐ annith better make it to the end
- Liked this will definitely continue to finish the series but might need a few breaks for something lighter in between bc this will give u nightmares (literally woke up multiple times at night thinking mermaid were going to get me as if i’m not 60 miles away from the ocean) ‐ will definitely continue to read the graphic novel bc I lowkey liked it more than the book :/
