synopsis
Life in The Royal Ballet comes with a set of unwritten rules, and no one knows them better than Nina Devereaux. Even in her current role as the Company’s Artistic Director, those expectations still loom menacingly over her life. But when she’s granted the opportunity to bring her revolutionary ballet to stage, the little voice that has always kept her playing by the rules begins to waver as she watches her love letter to the woman who has held her heart for years come to life. She knows better than most that it’s a long road from wanting something to having it, but perhaps this time she’ll finally manage to get it right.
rant
- I will literally never not love this book it’s literally the PERFECT amount of cute, fluffy, angsty, and hot
- I absolutely love love love the way that Clara acts and talks to Nina ‐ even after 18 years of pure confusion and angst she’s still super sweet and gentle w/ her
- the shmut was *chef’s kiss* (for my taste)
- I literally don’t know why exactly but this book had me so locked in I have literally no notes it was perfecto to me
- This is the type of book I can see myself re-reading a million times ‐ it’s a classic ‐ a staple piece if I must say so myself
- The pacing was amazing ‐ the content is fantastic ‐ and I fucking love MJ Duncan’s writing style
- I know I said no notes but the only “off” thing about this was all the repetitive scenes from Pas de Deux that were from Nina’s POV instead of Mallory’s ‐ The scenes were word for word the same (which I get for consistency sake) but it felt like a little much and I found myself skimming through those parts ngl
- If you’re going to re-read this right after Pas de Deux I would recommend taking a small break in between so you don’t get bored reading the repeated scenes
- Will 100,000% read again
noted & quoted
- The entire prolouge is everything ‐ I would never skip it ‐ gut wrenching but so good
- Movie Scene
- Car accident / first kiss
- First performance
- Surprise in San Fran
- Why don’t we fall in love ‐ Amerie

The way I told myself to take a break between reading this and Pas de Deux to help w/ the repetitive scenes and I just . . . couldn’t do it 😭. I was basically foaming at the mouth to read this again there was no way I was taking a break – I seriously love this that much.
