synopsis
After nearly a decade as a professional drummer, Diana Petrell leaves her rock-star life behind to continue her residency in emergency medicine. She’s determined not to let anything stop her—not even falling in love with her aloof mentor, Dr. Emily Barnes.
Emily has only ever focused on her career as a senior attending in the emergency department, and she isn’t happy about having to babysit a resident with a ten-year gap in her résumé, no matter how intriguing she is.
But every time they work together, it’s not just their patients’ heartbeat that gets a little irregular. Soon, the once-clear lines between work and personal life begin to blur.
When Diana’s unorthodox secret past is revealed, putting her job in jeopardy, Emily has to choose between her career and her relationship. A lesbian romance that asks how much we’d risk for love.
rant
- A great medical romance book
- This definitely hit the spot for a medical romance it was basically perfect in that aspect and took me out of my reading slump
- I don’t understand why this is rated so low on the 4 scale on goodreads Am I missing something??
- Abby Craden nailed the audio like always I swear she’s the only sapphic audiobook narrator that I never have a problem w/
- I liked that romance was between two doctors instead of just one of them being a doctor plus I liked that there wasn’t a huge age gap between them considering they were an attending and a resident
- I really liked both of the characters a lot ‐ I preferred Diana over Emily bc I liked how she was super blunt and to the point about the things that she wanted she never ignored issues or was vague / tried to navigate around them
- I really liked Emily too but for the way sis preached control she wasn’t in control of her emotions during any part of this that’s the only thing that threw me off about her ‐ I get that it was supposed to be like Diana threw her off but it seemed a bit on the dramatic side for me ‐ I liked that she was tough and pushed her residents but wasn’t a total bitchy “ice queen” bc I honestly hate that archetype sm and really try to avoid it
- The author doesn’t do subtlety in this they move from 0 to 100 pretty quickly considering that Diana went from thinking of Emily as a friend to a lover in literally .5 seconds ‐ I feel like she could’ve played up the angst and tension a little more but this is a pretty short book so it felt right in this not to ‐ I think she tried to by not having them get together right away but like I said before sis had no control over herself around Diana so we all knew that was just BS lmao but I liked that we got a lot of time together w/ them as a couple
- The meeting w/ Dr. Wallace was just weird to me and I didn’t like that Emily never told Diana that she was literally her dream girl I feel like that would’ve been a cute moment
- Would definitely read again
