synopsis

Ex-rock star, Dusty Song, abandons her music career to become a U.S. Marshal tasked with safeguarding vulnerable people from the criminals set on silencing them. When Dusty first encounters the illustrious Honorable Judge Bidwell, she sees a woman marked by the cases she’s tried.

Years later, Dusty remembers the strong-willed, audacious woman as the unlikeable star of the courtroom. When she’s called in to revisit the case following a series of disturbing reports, she comes upon a Mercedes Bidwell much different than her memory recalls. The two women walk together on a path seeded by those who came before them, carrying a silent wish in hope that someday someone will see them for who they truly are.

  • this one was just ok honestly not as good as I remembered it to be
  • This was mainly due to the fact that Mercy was so annoying to me ‐ her mood swings were not “attractive” to me at all and she was definitely lacking in the emotional maturity categoryher character mellowed out once Dusty started calling her out and working w/ her on it tho but that’s not something you should have to do w/ a late 30’s early 40’s judge / lawyer ‐ it just seemed a little out of character to me ‐ it also so weird to me that I feel like the characters that need therapy the most in this series are not really getting it lol especially bc Mercy’s moods swings are trauma based / triggered
  • I didn’t totally hate her character though she was just annoying at times ‐ I loved seeing her mom moments w/ Sam and her softer moments w/ Dusty
  • Dusty is a saint bc I personally could never have the patience that she doesher emotional maturity, on the other hand, was leagues above Mercy’s (and honestly mine but I’m only 22 and haven’t had nearly as much life experience) ‐ she saved this book for me I loved her character especially her scenes with the reoccurring characters from the other books ‐ I honestly liked these scenes more than some of her scenes with Mercy
  • The pacing of this book was good and the whole mystery behind who was stalking Mercy was well done & I liked the way that part of the story ended too 🙂
  • The epilogue was very touching and I loved bc it was  a full circle moment for Dusty and I loved that for her
  • Would read again but only if I’m rereading the entire series
  • Going to Dusty apartment for the first time
  • Moment after Mercy fires her staff for the second time
  • Car crash
  • Epilogue
