synopsis
Ex-Detective Veronica Baird lost almost everything she’d worked for in life to a spray of fateful bullets. A desperate move from Portland back to Seattle at the beckon of a friend, promises a safe place to live, a job, and support. When Veronica reunites with her best friends after circumstances urged them apart, Jordan and Alice rally around her in hope of nursing her back to life. The only ray of light in Veronica’s existence belongs to that of her nine-year-old daughter. Uprooted, devastated, and battling the abyss of despair, Veronica stumbles into meeting pediatrician, Scarlett, at the worst time ever. Or so it seemed. Veronica, and her pod of colorful friends, float together in darkness and light, though not all entanglements are meant to lead her to the surface.
rant
- Super sweet super fast paced romance between Veronica and Scarlett
- Veronica also has a daughter by her bestfriend who she had a one night stand w/ (only man she’s ever been w/)
- Veronica and Scarlett (and even Finn) were extremely lovable characters ‐ I would say that their personalities are very similar (which is probably why this moved so fast in the romance area) ‐ they were both comforting, motherly, and anxious
- This may have been fast paced romantically but it was in an enjoyable not super cliche way ‐ there was enough hesitation about getting together even though it was basically a love at first sight situation
- I will say that this book was a little bit more on the boring side for me ‐ Idk I think I expected something exciting to happen toward the end but really this was mainly about Veronica becoming healthy again and finding love and a new home ‐ which I love that for her but it just read a little slow at points
- I loved the little taste of detective Veronica we got in this
- I fucking loved all the little things Scarlett said to Veronica in French ‐ it was like sickly fricking sweet I loved it
- Really fucked w/ the epilouge
- Decent amount of side character action w/ previous characters + adorable one on one time w/ her daughter
- Would read again
- I basically hightlighted the whole thing lmfao
