synopsis
Daria Grayson spent the last year crawling out from the rubble of her previous life with nothing save for the clothes on her back and the hand of her little girl clasped in hers. She never expected to find herself back in Seattle, starting over, and attempting to reconstruct some semblance of normalcy for her and her kid. With best friend Molly at her side, Daria begins to take a few cautious steps back into the world. When Molly convinces her to go on a silly adventure to raise her spirits, she meets Charlotte, Molly’s cousin. Daria falls for the free-spirited artist and risks fracturing her delicately-structured existence. If Daria hopes to foster her connection with her newfound love, she must stand and face her greatest foe—herself.
rant
- not one of my favorites by Max but it was ok
- This moved a little to fast for me ‐ I feel like she could’ve / should’ve played up the angst a little bit more like in some of her previous book ‐ it seems like the ones w/ kids involved have more of a insta love vibe
- I usually don’t vibe w/ books about ppl w/ kids but Ella was super cute
- Both Charlie and Daria were good characters but Charlie felt a little too good to be true ‐ like zero character flaws she was giving cliche romance movie vibes vs like a real person if that makes sense
- I wouldn’t call this insta love exactly seeing as they’ve met each other before and apparently felt nothing for each other then I actually liked that she mentioned this bc that felt like one of the few non cliche (at least I don’t think its cliche) things about their relationship
- I absolutely adored Daria’s family & how accepting and caring they were toward Daria, Ella, and Charlie ‐ I love to see good family dynamics in a book it doesn’t happen to often
- Charlie and Daria’s Dad’s interactions were everything ‐ so sweet
- Molly definitely is the best best friend that I’ve read throughout this series so far
- Would only read again if I’m bingeing Max books
noted & quoted
- first kiss
- Charlie surprising Daria in Sequim
- Charlie being there for Daria after the shooting & Mitch’s. return
- Mitch dying lol (good riddance)
- The epilouge
