synopsis

Undercover assignments rarely have positive outcomes for anyone involved. For Maya, her successful mission might have brought her closer to her ultimate goal, but the price she paid left her with deep emotional wounds. On her first night back home after three months living the life of someone else, she finds herself alone and homeless in the streets of Seattle. When a compassionate stranger offers her refuge, Maya’s affection toward the kind dancer becomes the only light she can see. As Vivian attempts to help Maya lift herself up from a life of frequent falls, the two begin to explore their deep connection to each other. With the support of her doting cousin, Nora, and her chosen family, Maya slowly begins to lower the tightly packed walls around her heart.

  • I freaking adored this book (I need to expand my vocab lol)
  • Maya and Vivian are literally everything ‐ they may have moved really fast but they were at least aware of it and owned up to being uhauls which I liked the chemistry was palpable from the start ‐ they both have such big hearts and took care of each other right from the start ‐ you could literally feel the click between them in ch.1
  • Maya is going through something mentally throughout this book that made her easy to relate to ‐ even though it might seem ridiculous that she couldn’t tell the ppl closest to her what happened undercover the shame aspect of it was so understandable ‐ like no one sane would’ve thought less of her for it but just the shame of the ppl you love knowing about it would’ve given me anxiety too
  • I loved Vivan’s personality & how she knew just how to lighten the mood when Maya would get into a funk ‐ how to make her laugh / how to distract her from her problems ‐ She was Maya’s perfect partner & had a very lighthearted spirit
  • I also loved that Nora and Caroline were such a big part of this book too ‐ I have a huge soft spot for Car & getting to see her maternal/sister side with Maya was everything
  • Would 1000% read again
  • Maya and Vivi’s planning dates together
  • Vivian’s first visit to Maya’s apartment
  • Their dinners w/ Nora and Car
  • Caroline comforting Maya
  • Engagement
  • Maya’s talk w/ Sali
