synopsis
Civilization ended long before Lynn Tanner was born. Wild animals roam the streets, but mankind is still the biggest threat to a woman alone in the ruins of a world reclaimed by nature. Lynn survives by sleeping with one eye open at all times and trusting no one but her dog.
When she is forced to go on a dangerous journey through the concrete jungle of New York City, Lynn does all she can to scheme her way to safety. Her guard, Dani Wilson, won’t be played that easily, however. As their lives become entwined, Lynn finds herself developing feelings for Dani and is forced to find the answer to the question that scares her most: is staying alone really the best way to survive?
Fast-paced and full of adventure, Survival Instincts introduces a post-war dystopian world where the only person you can rely on is yourself…unless you fall in love.
rant
- yes, just yes ‐ this book literally had basically everything I love in a book I loved loved loved this
- The characters / character development in this was great loved Lynn so so much such a relatable and consistent character which I love to see same thing w/ Dani
- Lynn was strong and stubborn and genuinely a good person when she didn’t have to be considering how she thought of the world at the beginning of the story ‐ Dani was strong and stubborn like Lynn which helped them get along pretty quickly in terms of time span ‐ they were also both pretty blunt (same) which helped them learn a lot from each other
- Dani was too stubborn though imo bc sis would not budge on getting Richard’s body which honestly pmo ‐ the whole plan in general was so dumb I didn’t really like that they didn’t acknowledge it that much in the end but it was probably for the best bc it would’ve made the story drag
- definitely more of a character driven story but had a nice balance w/ the plot that kept you on your toes literally made it basically perfect ‐ the pacing was great too but it did drag at points in the beginning ‐ the ONLY thing I can think of that could’ve made this better was getting some POV from Dani but I mean it’s never too late for the author to write the story from a different POV (please I’m begging)
- I also would’ve liked to know a little bit more about Dani’s life prior to joining the Homesteaders as well ‐ like why did she and her Dad leave their first settlement? Why didn’t her mom join them? just little things like that
- I almost cried a little bit towards the end but was able to keep myself together lmao but I think that shows how much I cared about these characters and wanted them to have a happy ending ‐ also I love a full circle ending so that epilogue just felt so good
- Would definitely read again
