synopsis

Brains, guts, and ruthless ambition should be enough to come out on top in any fight. Except when the battle is over love, all bets are off. Derby Cain Casey was groomed from birth to take the reins of the Casey family enterprises, which just happens to be one of the major crime organizations in New Orleans. Surviving by never turning away from a fight and knowing how to win at all costs, Cain is as careful with her heart as she is with her business – until she meets Emma Verde. The farm girl from Wisconsin puts a hit out on Cain’s heart and leads her down a dangerous road filled with great joy and devastating sorrow. The Devil Inside is the story of unexpected passion, a shattering betrayal, and the challenge of love put to the test.

  • I liked thisonly thing really keeping it from 4 stars is the lame ass antagonist FBI guy ‐ he was really just weird lol ‐ that whole plot line just wasn’t it for me ig ‐ and the head hopping!! I hate it sm
  • when I tell u this took me on an emotional roller coaster ride I mean that shit ‐ had me tearing up literally right from the beginning
  • Cain literally had me (ʃƪ˘ﻬ˘) the whole time basically ‐ she was so smooth, smart, calculated, confident agh she was definitely my favorite character in this
  • Emma was a mess and messy af ‐ small town girls might have a cute likeable vibe until u realize they’re naive af smh ‐ my emotions were all over the place for this girl ‐ like I would hate her but then feel bad for her ‐ she really just had me going in circles ‐ lowkey Emma has a little devil on the inside of her too bc every 5 seconds u would find out she did something even more foul than the last thing she did 😭
  • the side characters were pretty good for the most part ‐ I loved Hayden sm he is definitely way more mature than any 11 year old I’ve ever met but it worked bc everything he said to Emma was lowkey valid and needed to be saidcan’t wait to get more from Merrick and Cain’s cousins
  • The plot was meh outside of the whole family drama aspect ‐ I feel like all the antagonists just needed to be like punched in the face and it would’ve been over lol
  • the pacing and the writing style were ok ‐ it was a little slow at points but I really enjoyed the first half of this ‐ it read like a tv drama and I loved that ‐ the dialogue was so fricking good at points to
  • Would read again if the antagonists in the rest of the series don’t annoy me
  • Hayden clocking Emma’s shit
  • Cain standing on business
  • all of the hospital scenes
