synopsis

Twenty years ago, Ripley Fox’s entire family was killed in a fire. After years in the foster care system and trying to rebuild her life, she’s once again confronted not only with the horror of what happened that night, but also with the truth about who was responsible.

Kenna Crawford is the very definition of a hard-nosed reporter. She always gets her story, never takes no for an answer and never lets go once she’s got something or someone in her sights. When she comes across the story of Ripley Fox, she’s not only intrigued by it but also by Ripley herself.

As the two women attempt to discover if there’s something between them, they’re forced to deal with the realities of what happened to Ripley and how Kenna’s career doesn’t make it easy for Ripley to let go of what she’s tried to forget for the past twenty years.

  • an ok Nicole Pyland book
  • This book may not fit the insta love tag perfectly but Kenna and Ripley’s relationship developed extremely fast imo ‐ insta love is one of my least favorite tropes but I was able to ignore that for this book
  • I thought there were would be more mystery when it came to who actually started the fire but we find out pretty early in the book who did it ‐ this focused more on the trial and finding justice that way
  • This book was like 75% focused on the romance and 25% focused on the plot ‐ I was expecting more of a 50/50
  • Way more spicy than I thought this would be & very low angst when it comes to Kenna and Ripley’s relationship ‐ There were a couple of couple arguments but nothing high stakes
  • Overall Ripley and Kenna made a good couple and had good chemistry
  • I enjoyed Ripley’s POV’s more than Kenna’s ‐ I liked reading about her journey through grief & still trying to move on  after decades of ignoring the fire
  • Kenna I actually found to be a little bit annoying but she grew on me the more I read but definitely not one of my favorite love interest by Pyland
  • Probably wouldn’t read again
  • Ripley taking Kenna to meet her family
  • Kenna finding a friend of Ripley’s parents and getting into contact w/ them
  • Ripley watching her ballet recital video
  • Their first night @ Ripley’s
  • Their first date
