synopsis
Everything the Great War took, a group of extraordinary witches will remake for themselves.
The First World War is over, the old world shattered and overturned. But one didn’t have to be anywhere near the fighting to have everything stripped away. Families, homes, identities lost, the witches of EVE were left at war’s end with only two things: their magical gifts and each other. From the ashes of Allied victory and the Russian revolution, this group of survivors will forge for themselves something altogether new in a time women aren’t even allowed to vote, let alone openly practice magic in public. Or love one another. But not all threats to their budding coven come from without. Secrets, lies and the lingering trauma they’ve suffered could tear them apart as easily as the war tried to do, and they will have to overcome–and embrace–all that they are to ensure the peace is a lasting one, and that the horrors of a world war are never repeated.
rant
- ugh this one was really good definitely better than the last one
- I’m totally used to her writing style now & now that I’m used to it I can really enjoy it
- This book brought a whole new level of depth to the existing characters that was missing from the first book and then just added a bunch of new characters that were just so tragic but loveable
- I will say Katya kind of pissed me off at the beginning but she grew on me ‐ the way Katya and Victoria squished their beef and then Victoria kind of became reliant on Katya?? at least that’s how Millie made it seem was weird ‐ basically her relationship w/ Victoria was a bit weirdly paced but I just went w/ it
- Victoria was my favorite in this book everything she going through in finding herself again through her depression + figuring out her powers was relateable ‐ my girl was just going through it and the author wrote her character development so well
- The villain in this was just sickening like there’s no other words for him and the fact that the Longs were going to have him sit next to Katya at the circus?? knowing what he did at the asylum and having him around Victoria of all people?? yeah I have a problem w/ them now
- THE ENDING THO! Just about killed me like the second I picked my favorite Russian they’re gone *crying* like literally anyone but Inga
noted & quoted
- Inga literally just her (mainly her sessions w/ Millie)
- Katya and Victoria coming home from the party + the night of
- Elise and Millie scenes
