synopsis
Malini has claimed her rightful throne as the empress of Parijatdvipa, just as the nameless gods prophesied. Now, in order to gain the support of the priesthood who remain loyal to the fallen emperor, she must consider a terrible bargain: Claim her throne and burn in order to seal her legacy—or find another willing to take her place on the pyre.
Priya has survived the deathless waters and now their magic runs in her veins. But a mysterious yaksa with flowering eyes and a mouth of thorns lies beneath the waters. The yaksa promises protection for Ahiranya. But in exchange, she needs a sacrifice. And she’s chosen Priya as the one to offer it.
Two women once entwined by fate now stand against each other. But when an ancient enemy rises to threaten their world, Priya and Malini will find themselves fighting together once more – to prevent their kingdoms, and their futures, from burning to ash.
rant
- PLEASE . . . oooohhhh. . . do it agaainn
- The way I finished this and immediately wanted to start it over from the top agh it was just so good definitely worth the wait
- The angst and tension between Malini and Priya at the the beginning agh I loved it
- I was not expecting Malini to be that pissed at Priya like “I want to kill her” mad ‐ she got over that pretty quickly bc she knew she would never
- MALINI DIDNT BURN FIRE DIDNT EVEN TOUCH HER ASS SO HA JUST PROVES THAT MEN R ALWAYS WRONG
- Priya my little dumbass why would u ever think the yaksa would truly care about humans?? But I feel like she just wants to see the best of everything and everyone and I mean she did dedicate most of her life to them ‐ honestly, they did technically die for them in the end but only bc the human bits of them were taking control fr ‐ also if you're a brother in this book ur not making it possessed or not lmao
- Honestly for this book taking two years to write it could’ve been better ‐ Bumika not really getting any time w/ Padma made me really sad she basically forgot she existed and was separated from her for 95% of the book ;( (seeing Padma grown up and kind of acting like Priya was cute tho) ‐ There being no real end to Sima’s story ‐ she was an important person to Priya and Rao (especially in this last book) what happened to her did she marry a nice girl and have a good life? I hope so ‐ Rao killing the priest I wanted ‐ no I neeeded- it to be Malini ‐ Sanvi and Varshas whole betrayal plot lines felt soooo unnecessary and like just filler but not even good filler bc Malini handled them like they were fucking annoying ass ants or something lmao
- Rando thought rn but Power dom fem Malini is literally everything like I never see good dom fems like her
- I honestly felt like the ending was kind of weird but at the same time I liked it bc it meant that Malini and Priya were like soul mates they’re connected to each other through spirit and now bc Priya is also connected to an immortal being both of them are immortal and get to live forever even though everybody wanted them dead so ha
- Rao actually admitting he was in love w/ Aditiya like bitch I must be blind bc I did not see that coming – another reason why I need to reread this bc I totally missed that they fr would’ve been a power couple tho
- I was so confused about how the priests just blew themselves up and killed the Yaksa, but not the nameless priests the mother ones but I thought that their fire wasn’t true fire? And they were men and not women so like actually what was going on there I was so confused by that maybe I read it wrong?? like at the end of the day a bunch of burning men was all it took to kill the yaksa wait im actually seeing the irony now
- Priya being gone for 15 years hurt even though it was like 2 pages for the reader but just imagining them being separated for that long at the end was sad but at least they’re happy for eternity now
- All in all this book was far from perfect but I still loved the fuck out of it I can and I would read it again bc I want to lol
