synopsis
The first three books of the Girls of Summer series introduced Emma Blakeley and Jamie Maxwell, two young athletes with bright soccer futures. Now, in The Road to Canada, a staffing change on the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) shortly before the 2015 World Cup has altered the playing field for both women.
For Jamie, a new coach means a renewed shot at making the World Cup roster for the top-ranked squad in the world. For Emma, the shift in priorities means that for the first time in her adult life, she isn’t sure she’ll be on the field—or even on the team—for a major championship.
Who will make the final cut for a chance to stand on top of the winner’s podium in Vancouver? To find out, join Jamie and Emma for the latest installment in the ongoing story of their lives, loves, and would-be world championships in The Road to Canada, book four of the bestselling series.
rant
- I liked this more than the first / third one
- This book was about 100 pages shorter than the last one and I flew through it ‐ I couldn’t put it down (I can’t pin point why exactly but I was really into it)
- The conflict in this was more centered around Jamie and Emma’s personal lives vs soccer which I liked more
- I thought the way they acted w/ each other was cuter than in the last book for some reason
- Had me scared there at the end that they were gonna break up but we narrowly avoided it
- I liked the angst and tension that Emma’s “secret” being revealed brought to this
- Emma and Jamie got to spend more time together in this book compared to previous ones which I liked
- Warning for future self there are a lot of mentions of a previous SA that happened somewhere in the first two books so you’ll probably want to avoid fully reading those
- Would read again and am excited to read the next two books
noted & quoted
- January camp
- Jo telling Jaime she made the team (finally playing together)
- Emma surprising Jaime in France
