synopsis

In book five of the Girls of Summer series, Emma Blakeley and Jamie Maxwell finally realized a lifelong dream at the 2015 World Cup. But in book six, Under the Lights, new drama unfolds.

For Jamie, success on the United States Women’s National Team isn’t quite what she’d expected. As the punishing pace of club soccer, national team, and new sponsorship obligations carries her into the fall, Jamie can only try to ride the current. Meanwhile, Emma and her fellow national team veterans debate taking a stand against a federation that values the dollars the women’s team brings in more than the notions of fairness or equity.

Off the field, Jamie and Emma continue to face the challenges of a long-distance relationship. Soccer brought them together, but now the brutal pace of NWSL playoffs and Victory Tour matches threatens to drive a wedge between them. What they need is time away from soccer, but finding that time after winning a world championship proves harder than Jamie ever would have expected.

To find out how Jamie, Emma, and the rest of their World Cup Champion USWNT squad fare, check out Under the Lights, book six of the bestselling Girls of Summer series..

  • This book was so meh but made important progress in Jaime & Emma’s relationship
  • Honestly just ended up skimming probably like 50%ish of this book ngl and I don’t feel like I really missed anything bc that’s how much the author rambled in this
  • Both Jaime and Emma were really in their own head during a lot of this ‐ there were so many unnecessary tangents they would go on that I could give two shit about (ex. Caitlyn Jenner)
  • Jaime and Emma were really cute tho when they were together ‐ they are honestly just a really good couple
  • So glad that Jaime got her full circle ending and is successful career and money wise finally
  • The whole Amber situation had me cringing & gagging hard ‐ lowkey pmo
  • Also why would you fuck up Ellie’s relationship & make her sad in the last book? I literally loved her so so much and I need her to find some closure in a short story or something ‐ I hate that we leave off w/ her in a bad place 🙁
  • Honestly, as a series idk if I would read this again out of all of the soccer based sports books that I’ve read so far this is definitely near the bottom ‐ I’m glad I read it at least once tho I really do love the characters it’s just everything else that’s kind of meh for me
  • Deciding to change teams and move in together
  • All of the celebrations for swimming the WC
  • Jaime and Emma proposing to each other
