synopsis

Kathleen Halloran’s brother drowned during the last summer they ever spent with their grandmother on a remote island off Maine’s coast. Like a siren’s call she can’t resist, Kathleen is pulled back to Little Sister Island. She leaves her job and her girlfriend, packs up her few belongings, and moves into her grandmother’s cottage.Molly Cooper loves life on Little Sister, where the islanders take care of their own. Kathleen Halloran doesn’t belong here, and her arrival stirs up unwelcome memories for the islanders—including Molly’s brother. Molly is certain Kathleen will pack up at the first big blow. When she doesn’t, Molly begins to see maybe there’s more to Kathleen than she thought.Sometimes, before you can move forward, you have to look back.

  • Honestly nowhere near as good as I wanted this to be 🙁
  • The saving grace in this book was the side characters ‐ they were all extremely lovable and very entertaining I loved the small town vibes
  • Now everything else the pacing, the plot, the writing style meh
  • The plot was just not compelling at all to me ‐ like the whole thing was like “is Kathleen really going to stay” which like duh she is even though she was extremely pathetic when it came to Susan she did seem to finally want to stand on business ‐ it was honestly not that interesting and then the whole dad thing at the end seemed pathetic on his part and again not that interesting and pretty cliche/predictable
  • The pacing was all just a bit off too especially when it came to Kathleen and Molly it all seemed a little fast which would have been fine maybe if it was written better and more throughly explained?? (like why things seemed to be moving slowly and then they were kissing all of the sudden) I think it would’ve made more sense to go slow bc, like  Kathleen even said, I think she needed more time alone before jumping into another relationship and the angst it would’ve added to the story would’ve been a plus
  • Had a love hate relationship w/ the audiobook narrator ‐ I loved the voices/accents she gave the characters and the way she read the dialogue it was everything else that I didn’t like ‐ she seemed to only have emotion during the dialogue then was robotic af during the narrative it was getting on my nerves honestly
  • Wouldn’t read again ‐ probably won’t finish the series
  • The old ladies Kathleen become friends w/
  • Kathleen spending thanksgiving and Christmas w/ Molly’s family
  • Molly walking Kathleen home after Halloween
  • Kathleen coming back home to the island for/with Molly
  • Her little dog Blossom
